Wilmington
Born and raised as a 4th generation Wilmingtonian, Billy Craig has deep roots in the local community. Growing up on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AICW), Billy spent much of his youth fishing and camping on Masonboro Island or navigating the waters in a jon boat. His formative years included frequent visits to the NC State Ports Wilmington, where he encountered a diverse array of people, fostering a deep appreciation for the Golden Rule and broadening his worldview. Billy’s early work experiences were varied and hands-on, including sorting baseball cards, washing dishes at Trails End Steakhouse, landscaping, moving furniture, and working in auto parts and fish markets, among other jobs. His versatility was matched by his commitment to learning and growth, evident in his many roles from age 12 to 21. In 1994, Billy pursued his passion for service by enrolling in the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Cape Fear Community College, leading to his role as a Wilmington Police Officer in January 1995. Over nearly three decades, he dedicated himself to protecting and serving, working night shifts in high-crime areas, building connections within the community, and later focusing on violent crimes and counter-terrorism. Billy retired with 30 years of service as a Wilmington Police Detective/Corporal and task force officer with a three-letter agency. His training spans interviewing, evidence collection, violent crimes investigations, courtroom testimony, surveillance, counter-terrorism, and negotiation with barricaded subjects. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology and Sociology and has completed over 3,000 hours of law enforcement-related training. In 2015, Billy began his transition to real estate as a part-time agent standing fast with Keller Williams, looking towards the future of an “after-life” as a retired cop. Achieving his retirement goal, he has transitioned to a full-time real estate professional. Before retiring in 2023, he has successfully represented over 100 clients, applying his negotiation skills and dedication to serve as a fiduciary with integrity. He enjoys connecting with clients, sharing their stories, and making new friends in his new role. Billy is married with two daughters, often feeling outnumbered by the women in his life but cherishing every moment. His personal philosophy is grounded in fairness, directness, empathy, and kindness. He greets everyone with a smile and strives to help others without expectation of reward. Inspired by the words of Uncle Henry Bost, Jr., Billy believes, “There is nothing you cannot accomplish with God in your heart and a positive attitude. Love others and love yourself, and remember, God loves you and I do too.”
I am a fourth generation Wilmingtonian who grew up on the Intracoastal Waterway. I spent much of my time between Wrightsville and Carolina Beaches, in a jon boat, fishing or camping on Masonboro Island like a lot of my family before me. I had the pleasure of working at the Trails End Restaurant, USSNC Battleship Memorial, WELLDAM Corporation and for a local seafood market while attending school. When I graduated from John T. Hoggard High School, I attended Cape Fear Community College's Criminal Justice Program and later Basic Law Enforcement Training. In January 1995, I was hired by a local police agency. In 2008, I returned to school and later graduated from Mount Olive University. I have a great love and knowledge of the area. I consider it an honor to work with newcomers or locals to share my experiences and knowledge to better serve you and your real estate needs.
